Lone Wolf McCloud - 9/27/10

Lone Wolf McCloud - 9/27/10, originally uploaded by TomRubin. Day 267 of Project 365. I was outside for a little while and for most of the day it was rather...blah. At least in the south suburbs anyway. For a brief period the Sun did make an appearance and I was able to snap a picture as it danced with this cloud.

Clouds over Orland - 9/26/10

Clouds over Orland - 9/26/10, originally uploaded by TomRubin. Day 266 of Project 365. I had to run to CompUSA in Orland Park to pick up a cable for a PC that I'm building for a client. When I came out of the store, I thought this might make a nice picture.

I like it.

Petey & Jake - 9/25/10

Petey & Jake - 9/25/10, originally uploaded by TomRubin. Day 265 of Project 365. The one picture I took on Saturday did not come out. It looked fine on the phone, but upon uploading it I discovered it was blurry. Very blurry. Like "OMG, how much did I drink" blurry.

I give you something from the archives...Bunnies!

Back in the day when I was married, the wife wanted pets. I found an interesting article in the paper about people using rabbits as house pets. You could even litter box train them.
We were not home enough for dogs and everyone knows cats are evil. Rabbits were the next, best, choice.

Fun with beans - 9/24/10

Fun with beans - 9/24/10, originally uploaded by TomRubin. Day 264 of Project 365. I got the idea to try shooting a picture incorporating the Cloud Gate Sculpture affectionately known as "The Bean". I was aiming for making the building mesh together, but that didn't work out too well. However, I did like the way the sky meshed together. I think if I had more time and no crowds, I could have gotten the effect that I was looking for.

Maybe next time!

Pizano's - 9/23/10

Pizano's - 9/23/10, originally uploaded by TomRubin. Day 263 of Project 365. I had some time to kill after the Grand Re-Opening of West Loop Chiro. It was a beautiful night, so I decided to take advantage of it by stopping for an iced coffee at the Starbucks at Madison & Wabash. I sat there for quite a while and watched the people walk by. It was interesting to hear and see the hustle and bustle across the street at my favorite pizza place, Pizano's Pizza.

Hindsight being 20/20 I probably should have sat there with a delicious pizza and watched the Starbucks instead. DOH!

Deserted on a Wednesday? - 9/22/10

Deserted on a Wednesday? - 9/22/10, originally uploaded by TomRubin. Day 262 of Project 365. By now most of my friends know that I like to eat my lunch at Millennium Park. It's no mystery, it's no secret. I was walking up the benches I normally sit on when I noticed a strange thing - the place was deserted. A beautiful Indian Summer day in Chicago and nobody was at the park!

There is one person walking towards me, but he is almost completely hidden behind the lamp post. It was so odd, most days you are praying for a seat.

Ice Cream!! - 9/21/10

Ice Cream!! - 9/21/10, originally uploaded by TomRubin. Day 261 of Project 365. So I've talked many times before about how I love going to Millennium Park with my lunch, right? Right. Well, I would occasionally see people walking around the park with ice cream. I never really knew where they would get this ice cream from, mainly because I was too lazy to actually A) Ask or B) Walk around and find out for myself.

I was done eating lunch and when I got up to throw away my trash I found the hidden ice cream source! A family of 4 walked out of the Park Grill. Each family member had big, beautiful ice cream cones! I felt like a bizarre combination of Columbo & Quincy for finally figuring out this mystery.

Within minutes I was at the counter drooling over the various flavors when my eyes locked upon the Coffee Ice Cream. It was love at first sight. Better yet, it was love at first taste!

The picture is a touch blurry due to the anticipation of eating the ice cream - my hands were shakin…

Millennium Park - 9/20/10

Millennium Park - 9/20/10, originally uploaded by TomRubin. Day 261 of Project 365. I've known about my impending layoff for a couple of months, so I've been spending as much time as I can at Millennium Park during my lunch break. This is one of the many gardens sprinkled throughout the park. I can often be found on one of the park benches, PB&J in hand, eating lunch and people watching.

The weather this week has been absolutely fabulous!

It's all coming to an end on September 30th so I'm happy I've been taking advantage of the time I've had. I'm sure going to miss my lunches at the park.

My Sister - 9/19/10

My Sister - 9/19/10, originally uploaded by TomRubin. Day 260 of Project 365. Elise's wedding on Saturday reminded me of my sister, so I searched the family archives for a good, Sunday, summer picture. I know it's a Sunday because my grandparents sweet Ford Station wagon is in the driveway.

Here, Gina is riding her bike. She always was such a sweet girl. This photo was probably from 1978 or so.

Where'd my picture go? - 09/18/10

Where'd my picture go? - 09/18/10, originally uploaded by TomRubin. Day 259 of Project 365. I was at a wedding on Saturday and as luck would have it, none of the pictures I took came out. Every single one of them was blurry.

Sooooo, this cloud picture will have to do. I took it while waiting for my ride to show up.

Oktoberfest! - 9/17/10

Oktoberfest! - 9/17/10, originally uploaded by TomRubin. Day 258 of Project 365. Friday was the last day of the Berghoff Oktoberfest and I was happy that I was able to go. Judging from the crowds that attended, I'm not the only one. For those of you that are not from Chicago:

The Berghoff restaurant, at 17 West Adams Street, near the center of the Chicago Loop, was opened in 1898 by Herman Joseph Berghoff and has become a Chicago landmark.

Herman Berghoff immigrated to America from Dortmund, Germany in 1870. Herman and his three brothers, Henry, Hubert and Gustav, started brewing Berghoff's Beer in Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1887. Herman wanted to expand the market for the family's beer and to do so he sold beer at the Chicago World's Fair of 1893.

The beer was well received which inspired Herman to open a cafe to showcase Berghoff's Dortmunder-style beer which it sold for a nickel. Sandwiches were offered for free. The bar remained open even through the prohibition per…

Vintage Tom, 1988 - 9/16/10

Vintage Tom, 1988 - 9/16/10, originally uploaded by TomRubin. Day 257 of Project 365. I had a request for a picture of me with hair. Sooooo, here it is.

Millenium Park Monument - 9/15/10

Millenium Park Monument - 9/15/10, originally uploaded by TomRubin. Day 256 of Project 365. I was near Millennium Park after a good lunch at Pizano's, so I swung by to snap a picture. Today's picture is of the Millennium Park Monument in Wrigley Square.

I was pressed for time and I was feeling lazier than this is as close as I got.

Let the light shine down - 9/14/10

Let the light shine down - 9/14/10, originally uploaded by TomRubin. Day 255 of Project 365. I was at a stop light admiring the clouds and it really took me a minute to realize I should be trying to get a picture. Yes, 255 days into this project and I still forget I need to post a picture a day. *Sigh*

The detail minded amongst you will notice that the light turned green. I didn't even have time to focus - just raise the camera and shoot the picture. I was hoping it turned out OK and I'm pleasantly surprised that it did. I swear I've been having the best luck with photos like this.

I wonder what my fellow cloud lover, Sarah, would think if she got to see these in person?

VW - 9/13/10

VW - 9/13/10, originally uploaded by TomRubin. Day 254 of Project 365. I had to take my beloved Rabbit in for an oil change on Monday and when I go there I like going in the morning. The main reasons for that are A) Everyone is normally still in a good mood and B) I can walk around the showroom without a Salesperson hounding me about a new car. The sales people don't normally start until 9 a.m. ;)

I walked around the showroom for about 30 minutes and took this picture. Guess what type of Volkswagen this shot if from and win a prize!*

*Prizes determined by how hot the winner is. Smoking hot would equal dinner for two with yours truly while "Meh" would equal a high five. Males are disqualified from guessing. *cough*

Sunday clouds - 9/12/10

Sunday clouds - 9/12/10, originally uploaded by TomRubin. Day 253 of Project 365. This shot makes me happy. The lighting effects are a gift from God. This picture came out the way I saw it and no processing or programs were used on it after the fact.

Click the photo to go to my Flickr page where you can see the photo in it's entirety.

Swept away like footprints in the rain - 9/11/10

Swept away like footprints in the rain - 9/11/10, originally uploaded by TomRubin. Day 252 of Project 365. The Rabbit was dirtier than I would have liked, so a car wash on Saturday was at the top of my "to do" list. I went to a different car wash and the sun was shining. Thanks to the time of day and the direction the car wash faces, I snagged this shot.

It's not that spectacular a shot, but I do think it's kinda, sorta neat.

Megan liked it too, so I figured I'd post it.

Farmers Market - 9/10/10

Farmers Market - 9/10/10, originally uploaded by TomRubin. Day 251 of Project 365. I celebrated the fact that it was Friday by eating this entire bag of dried berries and cherries while at the park. I told myself it was healthy because it was, you know, dried fruit. The Farmers Market at Daley Plaza has some very tasty merchandise!

Judging from the crowds at the Farmers Market, I'm not the only one that thinks so either.

If I'm wrong about the dried fruits being healthy, please don't tell me.

Only my skies are cloudy... - 9/09/10

Only my skies are cloudy... - 9/09/10, originally uploaded by TomRubin. Day 250 of Project 365. Some choose to see the clouds as a harbinger of bad times. Storms, rain, hail, lightning, tornado's, death, destruction...I could go on but you get the point.

I choose to see the clouds as a gateway to new growth. I choose to see the clouds for the individual beauty each one possesses. Never forget that every cloud potentially has a silver lining...

Happy Bodega! - 9/08/10

Happy Bodega! - 9/08/10, originally uploaded by TomRubin. Day 249 of Project 365. While participating in the FIJI Hunt last month, I met Amanda Cavazos and she told me all about her new business - Happy Bodega. It's a brilliant idea, if you ask me. A wholesome food truck to serve the breakfast and lunch time crowds of just sounds like it would totally work. I told her I couldn't wait to try their food...

Flash forward to today (9/08). I'm at work, checking out Twitter when I see a tweet from @happybodega:
"First customer of the day!". I nearly choked on my coffee. I checked out the @happybodega twitter stream and I just had to smile. Amanda's dream was now reality. Obviously I had to reach out via Twitter to get the scoop and as luck would have it Happy Bodega's first day started about 4 or 5 blocks from my office.

I headed over to their location around 11:45 and by 12:15 I was back at my office, devouring a delicious Roast …

Clouds, hold the rain - 9/07/10

Clouds, hold the rain - 9/07/10, originally uploaded by TomRubin. Day 248 of Project 365. This is another shot from the church parking lot. For new readers: the church has pay spots for Metra commuters.

We've really seen a lot of pretty nasty looking clouds this summer but bad weather fans have been calling it a tease. This was another example of no rain, but judging by the darkness of the clouds, you could swear rain was coming. Nope, not this time.

I don't know what the big deal is though. If people want rain, all they need to do is tell me. I'll go wash my car and viola! It will rain.

Trust me. It WILL rain.

Grillin' & Chillin' - 9/06/10

Grillin' & Chillin' - 9/06/10, originally uploaded by TomRubin. Day 247 of Project 365. I had a meeting with an accountant in the morning, but by 2 in the afternoon I was picking out a delicious New York Strip steak from Eurofresh. The uncooked one was mine.
It was glorious. It was delicious. It was medium rare - just the way I like it.

The weather was fabulous and the company was great. All in all it was a wonderful day.

Telecaster - 9/05/10

Telecaster - 9/05/10, originally uploaded by TomRubin. Day 246 of Project 365. I always wanted to play guitar. Hell, what red blooded American boy doesn't want to play guitar? Unfortunately for me, I never got the chance as a teenager. It wasn't until my late 30's that I actually bought one. Unfortunately, sometimes dreams are just that...dreams. I never did have a chance to learn how to play it. It sat in it's gig bag for a few years, untouched.

Sometimes that's how life goes, I suppose.

I ended up selling the Telecaster to my twitter friend Lindsay Manfredi (@LindsayManfredi) who promptly fell in love with it. Someday I hope to hear her play it!

Reruns! - 9/04/10

Reruns! - 9/04/10, originally uploaded by TomRubin. Day 245 of Project 365. Dear readers (currently about 13 of you), I'd like to respectfully invoke the "My blog, my rules" clause, if I may be so bold? This picture was taken about 2 or 3 minutes after the picture posted for 9/03/10, but I liked it so much that I wanted to post it anyway.

Thanks for your understanding ;)

The Eye of Sauron? - 9/03/10

The Eye of Sauron? - 9/03/10, originally uploaded by TomRubin. Day 244 of Project 365. After work I needed to stop at Walgreens and, swear to God, the skies were not looking like this when I went in there. Upon coming out of Walgreens, a few thoughts came to mind:

1) Um, just how long was I in Walgreens?
2) Hey, the burning orb in the sky reminds me of "The Eye of Sauron" from the Lord of the Rings.
3) I wonder if these jeans make me look fat?

I swear I was in there for maybe 15 minutes, max. Go rent The Lord of the Rings and let me know if you too are reminded of "The Eye of Sauron". Click the photo to go to my Flickr page - the full photo is better.

Totally off topic - Tom Bombadil was always my absolute favorite character from The Lord of the Rings. True story.

Dearborn & Madison - 9/02/10

Dearborn & Madison - 9/02/10, originally uploaded by TomRubin. Day 243 of Project 365. Upon leaving work, I noticed the view to the north and the way the light reflected off the buildings. It's also probably worth mentioning that it's not normally that dead at 5:30 on a Thursday night.

La Salle Street Station - 9/01/10

La Salle Street Station - 9/01/10, originally uploaded by TomRubin. Day 243 of Project 365. I arrived at the train station a bit early so I did what I always do - I looked around for interesting things to take pictures of. When I turned around, I noticed that the sun was casting a glow from behind the train on the tracks behind me.

What you see here is the glow from the Sun and as an added bonus I liked the effects of the Sun shining through the cloud.
